Christopher Lasch
Writing on the Web
Christopher Lasch became known as one of America’s most important social critics in 1978, when he published Haven in a Heartless World. This book was probably the most important response to the modernist attack on the family, which was at its height during the 1970s. Modernists had long argued that the repressive family stands in the way of personal liberation, but Lasch showed that, in our time, the real threat to freedom comes from therapeutic organizations that are taking the place of the family.
There is relatively little by Christopher Lasch on the Web:
- The New Illiteracy: A chapter from Christopher Lasch's best-selling book, The Culture of Narcissism, about the decline of education in America.
- Christopher Lasch vs. the elites by Roger Kimball: a review of Christopher Lasch’s book The Revolt of the Elites, which includes extensive quotations from that book. size 33K
